Update from Oct. 10, 2024: Hurricane Milton lashed Florida overnight on October 9, making landfall as a Category 3 storm with winds up to 120 mph near Siesta Key. In its wake, millions are without power, and extensive flooding, debris pileup, and tornado damage have left Floridians in dire need of support. The Tampa area experienced up to a foot of rainfall, while at least 36 tornadoes ravaged the state, claiming four lives in St. Lucie County. Hurricane Milton hit Florida less than two weeks from when Hurricane Helene devastated the state along with Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina.

With at least 120 lives lost across five states — including 30 in a single North Carolina county — historic flooding and widespread destruction have left communities in desperate need.
