On a whim, in the spring of 2022, the Givepact team applied to pitch at Coindesk’s Consensus Web 3 Pitchfest. To our surprise we received an email from Consensus and the Extreme Tech Challenge inviting us to attend the conference and be among eight startups pitching in Austin at the conference. We’d also be interviewed for a Coindesk article, see: Givepact Builds Free Crypto Fundraising Platform for Nonprofits
We had just started Givepact and solidified a new direction for the company as a crypto fundraising platform for nonprofits that a funds a social impact DAO. We were thrilled at the opportunity to attend and pitch at Consensus, a premier Web 3 conference.
In the days leading up to the June conference, I practiced the pitch a dozen times in front of friends and family. Steve Aguiar, COO and co-founder, along with Bin Yang, CTO, prepared me for potential questions from the judges.
Watch our pitch here.
From the eight finalists — Merkle Science, Mona, Bamboo, Cell Protocol, Deeper Network, Let Me Speak, Metagood, and Givepact — judges would select four to travel to Richard Branson’s Necker Island for Neckerverse, a retreat for entrepreneurs at the intersection of Web 3 and social good.
Judges Meltem Demirors, Rumi Morales, and Frances Ho chose Givepact as the top pitch among the finalists.
I did attend Neckerverse and was able to see first-hand the lap of luxury that are Richard’s private islands. Highlights include trying kite surfing for the first time, watching pro kite surfer Nick Jacobson jump off of Richard’s house, and meeting other entrepreneurs in Web 3. I also had the chance to showcase Givepact to the Neckerverse attendees. It was an unforgettable experience for the Givepact team to attend Consensus and Neckerverse and we are grateful to the Extreme Tech Challenge for the opportunity.
